This past Sunday was the first game of the corporate 20/20 Cricket League which was organised by YCA at the Heatherbank cricket club in Port Elizabeth.
emediaIT had an interesting blend of players ranging from experienced to social and after losing the toss and being put into bat on a fairly overcast, but warm day started off quite slowly, only managing 37 from the first 10 overs. We managed to double that in the 4 overs after the drinks break, but lost wickets at regular intervals, only managing 91 without completing our alloted 20 overs.
Our opponents, PK Welding, lost an early wicket, but stabilised after that to reach 45 for 3 after the first 10, being on track with the overall required run rate. We fought back hard, with some inspired bowling from Andrew, Werner, Joshua and Roger, but with runs being leaked, including 6 key runs through my fingertips at a critical stage, we found ourselves with simply not enough runs on the board.
All in all it was an excellent day out however and I can recommend it to any company wanting a social, but competitive fun day for both the players involved and their friends and families who come to enjoy the game. The club has a well stocked club house and braai facilities which are available to everyone.
